Katie Schmid is a licensed professional geologist who works for the Pennsylvania Geological Survey. She has caved all of her life. Katie is a life member of the MAKC and the NSS. She is also the long serving secretary of the Loyalhanna Grotto and member of the Pittsburgh Grotto. She is also the co-manager of the Harlansburg Cave Preserve. Katie has served as the executive secretary of the NSS Geology and Geography section since 2016. Before moving to Pittsburgh, Katie was active in the Central Ohio Grotto and served as secretary of the Ohio Valley Region. Katie was also a founding member of the Kentucky Speleological Society. Katie enjoys project caving. Her father, Bill Walden, taught her how to survey before she went to high school.
