Mike Schirato and Kaleb Hammond performed a bat count at the MAKC’s Hall Cave Preseve. Upon arrival we cleaned up some limbs along the access road up to the cave. Overall things looked good. There is some unstable rock at the cave entrance and dirt eroding into the entrance is slowly starting to choke off the entrance. We may need to do some entrance work in the next few years. Once inside the cave things looked good. There were lots of bat this year. There were nearly 50 in the register room alone. Overall we counted approximately 486 bats. This is up significantly from the previous year and the highest number on record. Over all the bats looked healthy and no signs of WNS. One bat did appear to be injured.
