For more information about access to the Billy Clay Pit Cave preserve send email to BillyClayPits@karst.org BE IT KNOWN TO ALL WHO APPLY FOR A PERMIT TO VISIT THE BILLY CLAY CAVE PRESERVE THAT: Cave exploration can be a dangerous endeavor.  The Mid-Atlantic Karst Conservancy, Inc., its board of directors, the Billy Clay Cave Preserve management team or access coordinator, the National Speleological Society or its lo cal chapters (grottos) or any individual members thereof will not be liable for any damages, accidents, injuries, or death on the surface or subsurface of the property.  All the above named organizations and/or individuals will also not be liable for any damage or loss of personal property while visiting the preserve.  Also note that the cave stream in the crawlway floods during wet weather, so trips to this section should not be done during a rainstorm or if rain is forecast. Persons intending on visiting during caving events such as OTR are encouraged to apply early. Priority will be given to advanced applicants, however, if there are still days available, the access coordinator may issue permits on site. Only one permit will be issued per day to protect the cave, and due to covenants agreed to during the year-long negotiations to buy the property. Permits will be good only for the date imprinted on them. It is to your benefit to indicate an alternative date below, but it is not required. In the event that your first date is already filled, and your alternative date is not yet taken, you will be issued a permit for the second date. If both are not available the access coordinator or other MAKC rep will take reasonable steps to notify you and give you the option to re-schedule.
