A Fayette
Cave
This cave is on property of the Pennsylvania Game Commission and was gated in 1993.
It was first surveyed by Deshong, Bob Dunn and other members of the Pittsburgh Grotto in 1955, 1956 and 1959. Ray ’Äúdiscovered’Äù the cave in 1955 but ’Äúhistoric’Äù signatures on the cave walls indicate the cave was visited as early as 1936. The map was left out of MAR Bulletin 5, Caves of Western Pennsylvania, in 1960, due to conservation concerns. Information on the cave was also deleted from GGR 67 for similar reasons. From February of 1984 to September of 1985, five trips were made by Pittsburgh Grotto members to resurvey the Cave.
The upper entrance was gated by the Game Commission in 1993 and has a non-opening gate, while the lower entrance has a small, awkward gate.
There has been no caver access to this remote, difficult to find cave since that time.
